This Was Brian Scalabrine’s First Bet At DraftKings Sportsbook MA

Brian Scalabrine's first bet at DraftKings Massachusetts was on the Bruins, from play-ma.com

To help kick off sports betting in Massachusetts, former Boston Celtic and current broadcaster Brian Scalabrine celebrated with DraftKings Sportsbook at the company’s Boston headquarters. Scalabrine has become a brand ambassador for DraftKings in Massachusetts.

In front of the crowd assembled outside DraftKings’ headquarters, Scalabrine announced his first bet on the DraftKings Massachusetts mobile app.

And … it wasn’t on the Celtics.

Scalabrine bet $100 on the Boston Bruins to win the NHL Stanley Cup, at +400 odds.

“Boston Bruins, do let let me down,” Scalabrine said in a video tweeted from the DraftKings Sportsbook account.

Scalabrine is a broadcaster for Celtics games with NBA Sports Boston, which restricts him from betting on Celtics games. The “Bet Local” DK ads began running in Massachusetts on Friday.

Scalabrine on hand at DraftKings launch party

Scalabrine helped to headline the DraftKings Sportsbook Massachusetts launch party. Also in attendance at the celebration at 500 Boylston St. in Back Bay were DraftKings co-founders Jason RobinMatt Kalish and Paul Liberman. A handful of Massachusetts lawmakers were there, too. And, of course, there was a DraftKings-themed Duck Boat.

While Scalabrine’s Bruins futures bet was the first DraftKings bet from a well-known figure, it was not the app’s overall first bet in Massachusetts. That honor belongs to a gambler who used a $25 bonus bet to make a parlay on the Boston Celtics to win the NBA Finals (+300) and the Bruins to win the Stanley Cup (+400).

The parlay has +1900 odds, so a $25 bonus bet would at a $475 payout. (Not $500. Remember, you don’t get your original bet back if it’s a bonus bet. Just the winnings.)
