The schedule for the 2023-24 NFL season was released last week, and oddsmakers aren’t showing a lot of love to the New England Patriots.

The Patriots are favored in just four of their 17 games for the upcoming NFL season.

That equates to just 23.5% of their games. Ouch. That’s somewhat surprising for a team that went 8-9 last year, barely missed the playoffs and have a talented young quarterback with one more season under his belt.

Sportsbook apps in Massachusetts launched in March, meaning football fans in the Commonwealth can get in on the action when the season begins.

Patriots schedule breakdown

New England Patriots betting will begin when their 2023-24 season kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 10, at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. As the reigning NFC Champions, it’s not a surprise that the Eagles are favored by 4.5 points.

The Pats then have a home game against the Miami Dolphins followed by back-to-back road games at the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. New England is not favored in any of those games, per DraftKings Massachusetts.

Finally, better odds in Week 5

The first game in which the Patriots are the favorites is in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. Right now, New England is a 3-point favorite.

The following week, the Pats are also favored against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road. They aren’t favored again until Weeks 9 and 10 against the Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts. Both of those games are at home.

New England’s bye week comes in Week 11. It plays seven games after the bye, and it isn’t favored in any of them.

However, there are some very close spreads in that time frame. The Patriots are underdogs of less than 2 points in five of their final seven games.

Interestingly, all major sportsbooks, including BetMGM Sportsbook Massachusetts, peg New England’s Over/Under for total wins at 7.5 games. So oddsmakers believe the Patriots will eke out a handful of upsets in the 2023-24 season.

Week Opponent Home or away Spread

2 Dolphins Home Dolphins -1
3 Jets Away Jets -3.5

NFL spreads can change

The Patriots may only be favored in four games right now, but that could change.

Professional oddsmakers for US sportsbooks adjust the odds and lines for NFL games all the time. The odds for each game are subject to change all the way up until kickoff.

Odds can change based on a variety of factors. The most common ones are player transactions, injuries and weather.

Because the Patriots have so many close spreads right now, it would not be surprising to see the lines move in their favor. By the time the season comes around, the Pats could very well be favored in more than just four games.
