Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes: What are the Odds?

With sports betting in Massachusetts on the horizon, hockey fans in the Bay State are eager to place their NHL bets. The 2022-23 Boston Bruins are running it back with the hope of making another, and possibly the final, run at the Stanley Cup with its veteran core of players.

In the offseason, the B’s welcomed back David Krejci after a one-year absence. Team captain Patrice Bergeron decided not to retire and signed on for his 19th season in Boston. The Bruins also made a head coaching change by firing Bruce Cassidy and replacing him with Jim Montgomery.

So what does all of this mean in relation to Bruins betting odds? The chart below shows Bruins futures odds at multiple sportsbooks heading into the NHL season:

SPORTSBOOK Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Atlantic Division Regular Season Points
BetMGM +2800 +1400 +900 N/A
Caesars +2500 +1500 +700 Over 99 (-115)
Under 99 (-115)
DraftKings +2500 +1200 +1100 Over 96.5 (-130)
Under 96.5 (+100)
FanDuel +2800 +1300 +1000 Over 95.6 (-106)
Under 96.5 (-120)

Bruins Stanley Cup Odds

According to DraftKings, the Bruins are +2500 to win the Stanley Cup. That places them behind ten other teams with better odds. The Bruins have obstacles on their way back to the Cup Final, most notably with injuries to several key players to begin the regular season. Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk all had offseason surgeries and will not be able to start the season with the team. Marchand and McAvoy aren’t expected to be back until sometime in December, while Grzelcyk isn’t expected to return until November. With that being said, winning the Stanley Cup is all about when a team gets hot and the ability to stay hot. How a team performs for the first two months of the season is not indicative at all of how it finishes.

Bruins Eastern Conference Odds

Once the Bruins are fully healthy, few teams will have better defensive talent or depth. In key situations late in games, the B’s can deploy a shutdown pairing of Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy, plus a two-way line of Brad Marchand, Jake DeBrusk and five -time Selke Award winner Patrice Bergeron. You know what they say, defense wins championships. That being said, there are still many hurdles to get over in the East which is why the Bruins are priced at +1200 to win the Eastern Conference on DraftKings. That puts them with the 7th-best odds out of 16 Eastern Conference teams.

Bruins Atlantic Division Odds

The Atlantic Division is one of the more stacked divisions in the NHL. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers all put up 110+ points last season, and all are looking to strong repeat performances this season. Younger teams in the division like the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottawa Senators are also expected to take steps forward this year. The Bruins currently have the 4th-best odds to win the Atlantic at +1100.

What Other NHL Futures Bets Are There?

Futures bets are wagers based on long-term predictions. NHL Stanley Cup odds are the most popular to bet on during the offseason, but there are additional futures markets to explore around the sports betting marketplace. Hockey fans can also bet on who they think will win each conference and division. You can also bet on teams to win the Presidents’ Trophy during the upcoming regular season.

Bettors can also place wagers on season-long player props like goal and point totals, as well as awards like the Art Ross Trophy (NHL’s leading scorer) and Vezina Trophy (top goaltender). Some sportsbooks offer futures bets on whether a specific team will make the playoffs. Many of these NHL futures are available both before and during the season.

With MA sports betting right around the corner, it shouldn’t be long before hockey fans in Massachusetts can place all of their favorite NHL wagers!
