Massachusetts sports betting is on the way, and the state is preparing for a robust betting industry. The Bristol community, home of the famous Raynham Park, may see its racing center expand with the addition of an onsite sportsbook.

After having their live greyhound races shut down by the state, everything has changed with new sports betting legislation. After shifting to simulcast for its business model years ago, the potential for new ventures at Raynham Park is exciting.

“I think it’s going to be a big winner because the younger people are very interested in it,” Raynham Park owner George Carney said.

In preparation for the sports betting industry to go live in Massachusetts, the Carney family will be tearing down its current location and building a brand new facility right down the road. The new facility is planned to cater specifically to sports fans and bettors, making the community park staple bigger and better than ever before.

“We’re going to emphasize on TVs, good food. We’re going to have a very nice restaurant as we always have. It will be a first-class operation,” Carney said.

The new facility is located off of route 138, and hopes to be ready to open early next year, right in line with a potential Massachusetts sports betting launch.

When Will Massachusetts Launch Sports Betting?

The state’s mobile and retail sports betting legislation was passed in the summer. At this time, sports betting platforms are still waiting for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to finalize the rules, licensing fees, and regulations of the industry.

At the moment, it seems likely that retail betting will become available before mobile betting. All signs are pointing towards a retail betting launch in January, with a mobile betting launch in March. But that timeline is not set in stone, and is subject to change.

At full capacity, there will be a number of retail and mobile sportsbooks that get to launch in Massachusetts, along with Raynham Park. This will give New England area bettors plenty of options to choose from.
