MGM Sports Lounge Ready For Action If Mass Legalizes Sports Betting

According to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s monthly revenue report, the gross gaming revenue (GGR) for MGM Springfield in August showed a slight increase compared to July 2022. In August, MGM Springfield generated approximately $22 million in gross gaming revenue, which is $475,109 higher than the previous month’s total of $21.5 million.

August Revenue Breakdown

During the month of August, the casino’s slot machines accrued a total of $17,518,085.09, while the tables managed to gather $4,474,746.40. In August of the previous year, the casino’s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) was around $21.8 million, reflecting a negligible disparity when compared to 2022.

MGM Springfield experienced a three-month closure (April to June) in 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. In August, following the shutdown, the casino recorded an approximate Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of $18.5 million.

In total, the state’s three casinos, comprising the luxurious Encore Boston Harbor and the exclusively slots-focused Plainridge Park Casino, generated around $92 million in gaming revenue (GGR).

In August, the resort casinos in the state were subject to a 25% tax rate on their Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR). However, PPC had a higher tax rate of 49% on its GGR. MGM Springfield, one of the casinos, contributed $5,498,207.87 to the tax revenue. Altogether, the combined tax revenue from all three casinos amounted to around $25.8 million in August.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that residents of Massachusetts were eager to have the opportunity to engage with legal sportsbooks during the opening weekend of the NFL season.
