Before March Madness, Yes, You Can Bet On The Oscars In Massachusetts
Finally being able to legally bet on sports in Massachusetts is great. But state regulators are allowing more than just that.
As of March 10, Massachusetts residents can now bet on professional league drafts, eating competitions, and awards shows such as the Academy Awards, Emmys or Golden Globes.
Yes, betting on awards shows like the Oscars is technically part of the approved Massachusetts Sports Wagering Catalog. And, with the Oscars airing two days after MA online sportsbooks launch, on March 12, gamblers in the state can place bets on the Academy Awards even before they place their first legal sports bets.
Massachusetts online sports betting operators can offer odds on the Oscars, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission spokesperson confirmed to Play MA.
Which Massachusetts sports betting apps will offer Oscars betting?
DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, WynnBET and Barstool Sportsbook all launched on March 10. So, if any sportsbooks offer lines on the Academy Awards, you can place wagers.
BetMGM and DraftKings currently list Oscars odds in other states. It stands to reason they’ll offer the same in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts has no restrictions on which Oscars award categories residents can bet on. Sometimes, sportsbooks will offer odds on all 24 categories. Other times, they’ll just offer odds on six categories:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Actor
- Best Actress
- Best Supporting Actress
- Best Supporting Actor
How to bet on the Oscars
All Oscars bets are moneyline wagers. There’s no point spread or total to consider when placing an awards bet. Think of Oscars betting like you would futures betting for awards like MVP.
