Betr CEO Joey Levy has given an update on when the microbetting platform will launch in Massachusetts.

The company initially planned to launch on Friday when the Massachusetts online sports betting market opened, but it was delayed. Originally, the company line was that it would launch “sometime over the next month.”

Now, more specifically, instead of holding out hope for launching in late March, Betr plans to launch in April.

“Our priority is always to provide the best possible experience for our prospective customers, so we want to ensure we have all of our ducks in a row before going live,” Levy tweeted on Friday.

What is Betr?

Betr is a microbetting platform co-founded and championed by YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul. It has been approved for a license in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia. The platform is currently live in Ohio.

Betr is the only US sportsbook dedicated solely to microbetting — a more second-to-second, instantaneous version of live betting. Instead of betting on the result of a game, Betr allows its customers to bet on the result of an at-bat, a field goal attempt, pitch, penalty kick and more.

We expect that once it launches in Massachusetts, Betr MA will offer new customers a welcome promo of $50 in bonus bets. There’s also a free-to-play version of Betr that’s available nationally.

Massachusetts online sports betting

Online sports betting in Massachusetts launched on Friday with six operators entering the Massachusetts market. Sports fans in Massachusetts can now bet on sports using DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, WynnBET, and Barstool Sportsbook using signup bonuses to get started.

Under current law, as many as 15 MA online sports betting apps can be available in MA. So far, 11 mobile licenses have been approved, but PointsBet withdrew its application and will not launch in Massachusetts.

If Betr stays on schedule for an April launch, it should be the state’s seventh entry. Fanatics Sportsbook hopes to launch in MA in May, along with Bally Bet. Betway plans to launch in January 2024.

In addition to online betting, retail sports betting has been live for over a month. Bets can be placed at three casinos — Encore Boston HarborMGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino.
