Betr, the microbetting platform co-founded and championed by YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul, won’t launch on Friday in Massachusetts as originally planned.

That revelation came from Chair Cathy Judy-Stein during Wednesday’s meeting of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Betr later confirmed the news, saying it needed more time to refine the user experience in the Bay State.

“At Betr, it is our priority to give our users the best possible experience while using our app,” the company said in a statement. “As we continue to work to ensure we can deliver that in Massachusetts, we now plan on launching sometime over the next month.

“We want to thank the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for all of their hard work and collaboration. This is an important milestone for us and we can’t wait to bring our differentiated product experience to sports fans throughout the state.”

How many apps will launch in MA on Friday?

That means only six Massachusetts online sportsbooks are expected to launch Friday, the first day of legal MA online sports betting:

  • DraftKings Sportsbook
  • BetMGM
  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • Barstool Sportsbook
  • WynnBET
  • FanDuel

Given Betr’s stated timeline, it could launch either in late March or April. Bally Bet and Fanatics Sportsbook plan to unveil their Massachusetts sportsbook promos and launch their apps in May. Betway will go live in January 2024.

In total, that’s 10 online sports betting licenses spoken for in Massachusetts. Current law allows up to 15.

What is Betr?

Betr has licenses in Massachusetts, Ohio and Virginia. It is currently live in Ohio.

Betr is the only US sportsbook dedicated to microbetting — a more second-to-second, instantaneous version of live betting. Instead of betting on the result of a game, Betr allows its customers to bet on the result of an at-bat, a field goal attempt, pitch, penalty kick and more.

We expect that, whenever it does launch in Massachusetts, Betr MA will offer new customers a welcome promo of $50 in bonus bets.
