The highly-anticipated MGM Springfield casino, worth a staggering one billion dollars, is scheduled to open its doors in September. In the meantime, the colossal Wynn Boston Harbor, with a price tag of 2.4 billion dollars, is aiming for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June 2019.

Both properties will serve as exceptional destination resort casinos, offering a vast array of amenities, entertainment choices, shopping opportunities, and dining experiences.

However, there is a third casino in Massachusetts that has already welcomed guests – Plainridge Park Casino.

Although the harness racing venue/slots parlor may not offer the luxurious spas and extensive shopping choices found at MGM and Wynn, it does provide dining and entertainment options.

A quick history of Plainridge Park

Penn National Gaming owns and operates Plainridge Park, a racino located in Plainville, Massachusetts. It is a live racing venue combined with a slot parlor.

Before the state of Massachusetts authorized casino gambling in 2011, Plainridge Park had already been operating as a harness racing track in Central Massachusetts for 15 years. According to the state’s gaming law, up to three resort casino licenses and one slot parlor license can be awarded.

In February 2014, Plainridge was granted the slot parlor license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, beating out two other applicants for the coveted license.

The transformation of Plainridge Park into the Plainridge Park Casino occurred on June 22, 2015.

Take a glimpse at the amenities and features offered by the property.

Entertainment

Revolution Lounge

Located on the opposite side of the casino, Revolution Lounge is a captivating outdoor stage and bar area.

Most weekend nights, the Lounge showcases live performances by local bands.

The stage is encircled by a complete bar, offering additional seating options at bar tables and a rear rail with available seats.

Detailed below are the special ticketed events hosted in Plainridge’s banquet area, The Loft.

Restaurants

Flutie’s Sports Pub

Flutie’s Sports Pub, named after the renowned athlete Doug Flutie, is a tribute to his remarkable athletic journey and strong connection to the local community. It commemorates Flutie’s impressive achievements, starting from his outstanding performance at Natick High School, continuing through his time at Boston College and with the New England Patriots, and encompassing various stints in the USFL, NFL, and CFL.

Flutie’s boasts a significantly spacious establishment, providing a relaxed dining atmosphere featuring classic pub cuisine, an expansive bar section, and an abundance of televisions.

Slack’s Oyster House & Grill

Slack’s, located at Plainridge, offers an elevated dining experience with top-notch cuisine at a reasonably affordable price. In contrast, the identical menu would cost at least 25 percent more at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun.

From burgers and fish and chips to seafood towers and premium beef cuts, our menu offers a wide variety of options.

Food Court

For those seeking convenience and simplicity, Plainridge offers a compact food court section comprising three eateries and communal seating.

  1. It’s a common sight to see a Dunkin Donuts at Plainridge because, as per the law, it seems like every food court in Massachusetts is obligated to have one.
  2. Slice – An affordable pizza and sandwich eatery.
  3. Excellent – A more nutritious choice at the food court, providing a wide range of options such as turkey and vegetable burgers, avocado bowls, and refreshing smoothies.

Racing concessions

  • The Dark Horse Bar is situated in the area designated for simulcast and race viewing.
  • You can find concessions available trackside as well.

Amenities

The Loft

Located above Plainridge’s racebook, The Loft serves as an event space with two rooms. It caters to both private functions and ticketed events held at the property.

Up to 300 guests can be accommodated at The Loft.

  • The Newbury Room can accommodate anywhere from 15 to 100 seated individuals.
  • The Boylston Room has a seating capacity of over 200.

Plainridge also provides a comprehensive banquet menu, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options in both buffet and sit-down styles.

Hotel

Although Plainridge does not have its own on-site hotel, Marquee Rewards members can enjoy discounted rates at various nearby options in the immediate vicinity.

The nearest option is the Holiday Inn Express in Plainville, situated just half a mile away from the casino. Marquee Rewards Members can enjoy a 10 percent discount on rooms at the Holiday Inn Express Plainville.

Gaming

Naturally, the main attraction at Plainridge Park Casino is the opportunity to gamble.

Plainridge Park offers an impressive selection of 1,250 cutting-edge slot machines, which include video poker and electronic live-dealer table games.

Plainridge also offers over 100 live harness racing days, in addition to year-round simulcast racing that runs every day of the year.
