The opening of Wynn Boston Harbor is scheduled for that time.
By far the largest of its kind, this ambitious project will mark the Bay State’s third casino, with a staggering cost of $2.4 billion.
As always, in the classic Steve Wynn style, the upcoming project will undoubtedly be the most magnificent one yet. With his signature penchant for the dramatic, the Wynn Boston Harbor website showcases stunning renderings that truly encapsulate the grandeur that awaits.
In addition, the resort casino will offer the following amenities:
- An “ultra-premium” spa
- A six-acre public park
- A “living” shoreline
- There are three water shuttles available to transport guests across Boston Harbor.
According to MassLive.com, Wynn Boston Harbor President Robert DeSalvio mentioned that the water shuttles will be operational throughout the day. He believes this will serve as a convenient alternative to driving, allowing people to simply board the shuttle and arrive directly at the resort. DeSalvio anticipates that the ride will be comfortable and enjoyable.
The casinos keep getting bigger…
In the Massachusetts casino market, Wynn Boston Harbor will reign as the top contender, asserting its dominance as the apex predator.
Take a brief look at how the three properties compare to each other.
Plainridge Park Casino
Plainridge Park Casino boasts
- 1,250 slots
- There are two distinct sit-down restaurants, namely Flutie’s Sports Pub and Slack’s Oyster Bar, along with a convenient food court.
Plainridge employs 550 individuals on a permanent basis, with an annual wage expenditure of nearly $18 million.
MGM Springfield
Located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, MGM Springfield occupies a vast expanse of 16 acres of land.
The casino will have:
- 3,000 slots
- 100 table games
- A 23-table poker room
- There are an undisclosed number of restaurants.
- 250 hotel rooms
About 3,000 permanent jobs are anticipated to be created by MGM Springfield.
Wynn Boston Harbor
The Wynn Boston Harbor encompasses a vast area of 33 acres, with the main casino building occupying a significant 13-acre plot.
The casino will boast:
- 2,500 slots
- 150 table games
- A poker room with over 90 tables.
- 13 restaurants
- 671 hotel rooms
The casino is set to hire a workforce of 4,000 individuals, with an annual payroll amounting to $170 million.
… And more expensive to build
At a staggering cost of $250 million, Plainridge Park in Plainville, Massachusetts underwent a remarkable transformation, emerging as the splendid Plainridge Park Casino. Following extensive expansion and renovations, the once solely dedicated harness racing and simulcast facility now proudly boasts a dazzling array of slot machines, officially opening its doors in June 2015.
In September 2018, the grand opening of MGM Springfield is anticipated, with an estimated budget of $950 million, which is nearly four times the cost invested in Plainridge Park.
While MGM’s building is undoubtedly impressive, with an estimated cost of $2.4 billion, Wynn Boston Harbor surpasses MGM Springfield by 2.5 times in terms of expenses and is almost 10 times more costly than Plainridge.
