After the grand opening of MGM Springfield at the end of August, it appears that gamblers in MA will have the opportunity to indulge in late-night drinking at the casino.

Everywhere else in Springfield, the last call is at 2 a.m. Nevertheless, the Springfield City Council has granted approval for MGM Springfield to extend alcohol serving hours at the casino until 4 a.m., following a proposal on Monday night.

The proposal is still pending approval from state lawmakers. However, if it gets the green light, casino patrons will have the privilege to enjoy an additional two hours of drinking after the usual last call.

Only gamblers on the casino floor will have access to the extended alcohol serving hours. However, all restaurants and bars at MGM Springfield will still be required to abide by a 2 a.m. last call for alcohol.

From 2 a.m. to 4 a.m., beverages offered on the casino floor will be served in distinct cups. However, the sale of alcohol will be restricted between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.

MGM Springfield’s August opening

On April, MGM made an announcement that their casino resort, MGM Springfield, worth $950 million, will be welcoming guests starting from Friday, August 24.

MGM Springfield is set to become the premier luxury resort and entertainment hub in New England. The resort will boast a unique boutique-style five-story hotel, comprising 250 guestrooms, designed to pay homage to the rich historical heritage of the region.

The property will provide a variety of food and beverage choices, such as:

  • Chef Michael Mina, winner of the prestigious James Beard Award, presents his latest culinary masterpiece: Cal Mare.
  • The Chandler Steak House, led by executive chef Meghan Gill, who emerged victorious in season 14 of Hell’s Kitchen.
  • The TAP Sports Bar, known as MGM’s iconic establishment, offers a unique experience.
  • Casual dining experience offered by South End Market, located just off Main Street.
  • Starbucks coffee house

The MassMutual Center

The main focus of entertainment at the property will revolve around the MassMutual Center, MGM Springfield’s designated entertainment venue with a seating capacity of 8,000. This venue will host various events, including large-scale conventions and live entertainment. On Saturday, September 1st, Stevie Wonder is set to perform at the MassMutual Center.

In addition to that, MGM Springfield offers various other entertainment choices such as the Topgolf Swing Suite, a state-of-the-art movie theater complex with eight screens, and a well-equipped bowling center with 10 lanes.

In addition to that, MGM Springfield is set to include a spa and a spacious 8,000-square-foot pool situated in a beautiful terraced rooftop garden.

Additionally, the property will feature approximately 55,000 square feet of retail space. Inspired by the timeless charm of a New England town common, the resort’s retail area will encompass an open-air plaza. This inviting space will serve as a vibrant marketplace, showcasing live events, local artisans, farmers markets, and even a seasonal outdoor ice rink.

125,000-square-foot casino

In conclusion, the establishment will boast a sprawling 125,000-square-foot casino, housing an impressive array of entertainment options. The gaming floor will offer over 2,550 slot machines and 120 gaming tables, along with a dedicated poker room and an exclusive high-limit VIP gaming area.

After its opening, MGM Springfield will become the second commercial casino in Massachusetts. Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville was established by Penn National Gaming in 2015.

In 2011, state lawmakers passed the Expanded Gaming Act, which included the approval for the establishment of a third commercial casino. The highly anticipated opening of the $2.4 billion Encore Boston Harbor (previously known as Wynn Boston Harbor) is set to take place in Everett in 2019.

Opening this summer, the First Light Resort & Casino, a $1 billion tribal casino, is being constructed by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe in Taunton.
