The permanent retail Barstool Sportsbook at Flutie’s Sports Pub is expected to be completed by late spring or early summer, as Plainridge Park Casino aims to meet this target.

On Wednesday, a Plainridge Park racing official shared the update with Play MA, stating that this was the case.

“The official stated that it would be a few more months before it happens.”

Despite multiple attempts, Plainridge Park Casino failed to answer several calls. The racing department was the only department that responded.

On January 31, as in-person sports betting in Massachusetts became available, Plainridge Park Casino launched a temporary Barstool Sportsbook. Flutie’s Sports Pub, which has been closed to the public for a few months, is currently undergoing renovations to transform into the casino’s permanent sports betting destination.

Open by MLB All-Star Game?

The spokesperson for Plainridge Park, C.J. North, informed Play MA in February that the upcoming PPC sportsbook would have a Boston theme. It will also feature full-service restaurants, a bar, 20 sports betting kiosks, five betting windows, and HD TVs lining the walls. North mentioned that PPC was aiming for a summer opening during their conversation with Play MA.

On the other hand, the casino official at Plainridge expressed their goal of opening in the late spring.

PPC’s retail sportsbook has the potential to open in time for several major events if renovations are completed swiftly. The first opportunity would be during Wimbledon, which takes place from July 3-16, followed by the MLB All-Star Game on July 11. In an ideal scenario, if renovations conclude by June, there is a possibility that the new Barstool Sportsbook could even be open for the US Open in golf (June 12-18) and potentially for the NBA Finals, starting on June 1.

Details of temporary Barstool Sportsbook at PPC

In February, the temporary Barstool Sportsbook Massachusetts at Plainridge Park recorded impressive figures, surpassing all other casinos in the state. Equipped with 18 kiosks and five betting windows, this sportsbook generated the highest revenue of $890,555. Although it ranked second in terms of total handle, with $7,059,460, it trailed behind Encore Boston Harbor which boasted a remarkable total handle of $16,900,615.

In addition to the existing three retail sportsbooks in Massachusetts, MGM Springfield will soon be joined by a fourth. Raynham Park has teamed up with Caesars Sportsbook to establish a standalone sportsbook spanning 30,000 square feet. The application for the sportsbook license will be evaluated by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on April 12th.
