Tables are now open 24 hours again at MGM Springfield

All casinos in the US were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in temporary closures and reduced offerings upon reopening. However, there has been a recent development at one Massachusetts casino. MGM Springfield has now reintroduced its services, including 24-hour access to table games.

MGM Springfield stands as one of the three casinos in Massachusetts.

The table games at MGM Springfield, which initially opened on August 24, 2018, have once again become available 24/7 since June 13.

Which games were affected?

According to Beth Ward, the spokesperson for the casino, table games have been closed between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. for the past two years.

“Ward expressed MGM Springfield’s delight in resuming the round-the-clock availability of table games. This development marks another encouraging stride in our property’s reopening strategy, as we adapt to meet the needs and preferences of our valued guests and the market.”

There are now table games available round the clock, 24/7.

  • Blackjack
  • Three Card Poker
  • Four Card Poker
  • Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em
  • Craps
  • Roulette
  • Mini Baccarat
  • Midi Baccarat
  • Big 6
  • Let it Ride
  • Spanish 21

According to Ward, some games that had to close early due to the pandemic have now extended their operating hours. Certain establishments are now open until 4 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. on weekends.

No special permission needed

According to commission spokesperson Thomas Mills, the change was reported to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) by casino officials, even though it was not mandated by the commission.

Mills explained that it was simply a business decision made by the company. The commissioners were aware of the decision, but there was no need for any action from the gaming commission.

New casino in state not happening for now

MGM Springfield is a spacious facility spanning 125,000 square feet and offering an extensive selection of entertainment options, including over 2,500 slot machines, keno, poker, and table games. As one of the two resort casinos in the state, it operates under the regulations set forth by the Expanded Gaming Act of 2011, which permits the establishment of casinos in three designated regions.

  • The counties included in Region A are Suffolk, Middlesex, Essex, Norfolk, and Worcester.
  • Counties included in Region B are Hampshire, Hampden, Franklin, and Berkshire.
  • The counties included in Region C are Bristol, Plymouth, Nantucket, Dukes, and Barnstable.

Region B is home to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and conveniently situated on the north side of I-91 in this area is MGM.

During this legislative session, State Sen. John Cronin introduced bill S258, which aimed to establish a fourth casino in the Leominster region. However, the bill has been returned for committee analysis and will not be further discussed for the time being.
